The 2002 Minnesota Nonprofit Economy Report was released at MCN's Annual Conference in October 2002. The report has been expanded from previous years to include profiles on the six regions in Minnesota.
A few highlights:
- In 2001, there were 4,610 nonprofits with employees in Minnesota.
- From 2000 to 2001, the nonprofit workforce grew from 231,284 to 237,388, an increase of about 6,110 employees, or 3%.
- Nonprofit employees now account for just over 9% of the state's total workforce.
- Nonprofit wages, however, continue to lag behind wages for the for-profit and government sectors. The average weekly wage for nonprofit employees in 2001 was only $609, which was 15% lower than the average weekly wage for for-profit employees and 11% lower than average weekly government wages.
