The Minnesota Budget Project is an initiative of the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits.

Minnesota State Agencies and Legislative Resources

Minnesota Department of Finance provides documents relating to the state's budget and economic forecasts.  

Minnesota Department of Revenue supervises the administration of Minnesota tax laws and provides research on the state's tax system.

Minnesota House of Representatives Fiscal Analysis Department prepares publications on state budget issues and government finance.

Minnesota Senate Counsel, Research and Fiscal Analysis Office provides analysis of issues relating to the fiscal activities of the state.

The Office of the Legislative Auditor conducts studies that analyze state-funded programs to determine whether they are accomplishing their goals and utilizing resources efficiently.  It also conducts best practices reviews of selected local government services.

Minnesota Tax and Budget Organizations

Children's Defense Fund-Minnesota has information on family tax policy and state budget decisions. 

National Sites of Interest

The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities is a nonpartisan research organization and policy institute that conducts research and analysis on a range of government policies and programs, with an emphasis on those affecting low- and moderate-income people.

Citizens for Tax Justice is a nonpartisan, nonprofit research and advocacy organization dedicated to fair taxation at the federal, state, and local levels.

Economic Policy Institute is a nonprofit, nonpartisan think tank that seeks to broaden the public debate about strategies to achieve a prosperous and fair economy.

Economic Analysis and Research Network (EARN) is a national network of research and advocacy organizations that seeks to advance progressive policy at the state and national level.

OMB Watch is a nonprofit research, educational, and advocacy organization that focuses on budget issues, regulatory policy, nonprofit advocacy, access to government information, and activities at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

State Fiscal Analysis Initiative is a network of nonprofit and nonpartisan organizations in 29 states that share a commitment to rigorous budget and tax analysis.

The Urban Institute investigates social and economic problems confronting the nation and analyze efforts to solve these problems. The Institute seeks to increase Americans' awareness of important public choices and improve the formulation and implementation of government decisions.
