PRIMARY
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The mission of the Hennepin County Human Services and Public Health Department is to strengthen individuals, families and communities by increasing safety and stability, promoting self-reliance and livable income and improving the health of our communities.
The Administrative Services division of HSPHD is seeking an Office Specialist I to screen and schedule WIC appointments.
This position requires customer contact with non-English speaking clients, the ability to work effectively with others and provide good customer service, and the ability to communicate specialized oral information in both English and Spanish. A Spanish language assessment will be required to evaluate language skills.
The primary duties and responsibilities of this position include: · Answer telephones and direct calls. · Schedule client appointments. · Prepare and maintain client records. · Perform basic computer operations using Microsoft Word and Excel. · File and retrieve files. · Use bilingual skills in answering phones; and in directing, conversing with and corresponding with WIC clients.
EXPERIENCE
AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
The Ideal Candidate will have: · One of the following: o One or more years of full-time equivalent office clerical experience. o One or more years of related post high school education. o An approved combination of related education and experience. · Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish and English, both verbally and in writing. · Knowledge of and experience with Spanish-speaking cultures. · Experience using computer systems, including Microsoft Word and Excel. · Experience answering telephones and directing calls. · Experience scheduling appointments. · Experience working at a reception desk. · Experience working with health records. · Ability to demonstrate the employee competencies.
Invitations to interview will be based upon an assessment of education and experience. Finalists will be required to pass a verbal and written Spanish language assessment.
