VISTA Learning Lab Community Developer

Established in 1993, Urban Ventures is a faith-based organization in South Minneapolis that focuses on developing youth leadership, strengthening families and creating meaningful work opportunities in our community.



JOB TITLE: VISTA Learning Lab Community Developer
LOCATION: Twin Cities Metro

TYPE: Full Time    DEADLINE: 5/21/2010

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Build support for Learning Lab through volunteers and community partnerships.

Volunteers:
• Create volunteer job descriptions for Learning Lab volunteer mentors
• Establish a volunteer program, and develop and maintain policies and procedure to include recruitment, training, management, support, recognition and evaluation of Learning Lab volunteers.
• Recruit volunteer mentors for Learning Lab through community partnerships, churches and businesses.
• Develop and conduct exit interviews for volunteer mentors as a tool for improvement for the organization.
• Collect and analyze data on volunteer impact

Community Partnerships:
• Meet and build relationships with current partners of the Learning Lab, which includes businesses, schools and community groups.
• Establish new community and business partnerships for the Learning Lab.
• Participate with staff in events and programs where community members, business leaders and others are present to help facilitate the work.

Increase parent involvement in Learning Lab programs:
• Make connection with each parent of Learning Lab student
• Assist with planning family events for the Learning Lab.
• Assist Learning Lab teachers and Director to work with parents who are establishing new relationships with their children’s school, connecting to resources
• Work with Learning Lab staff to establish and facilitate annual events and projects where parents may be invited to attend.
• Work with parents to facilitate their relationship with Learning Lab staff, events and projects.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Commitment to the value of volunteering and mentoring
Commitment to, and understanding of youth development
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Experience in volunteer coordination preferred, including recruitment, leadership and training
Demonstrated organizational skills
Spanish language skills preferred
Microsoft Office software proficiency
