SUMMARY:
Casa de esperanza is a nationally recognized Latina organization which exists to mobilize Latinas and Latino communities to end domestic violence. Rooted in Latino values, the organization proactively addresses the causes and impact of violence in the home. Casa de Esperanza creates family support systems; changes community attitudes about domestic violence; facilitates community networks; and enhances Latinos’ access to resources and support—locally and nationally. Casa de Esperanza served nearly 14,000 individuals throughout the United States in 2008.

PRIMARY
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
POSITION DESCRIPTION • Create a safe, supportive and welcoming environment in the Refugio for women and their children. • Assist clients experiencing domestic violence to develop, pursue and achieve their goals to become and remain violence-free. • Promote and represent the mission, vision, and values of Casa de Esperanza. RESPONSIBILITIES • Answer bilingual crisis line. Discern caller eligibility and immediate needs, obtain agreement for follow-up services or refer to another appropriate agency for follow-up. • Respond to women’s possible immediate needs to move to a safe place as needed, including arranging transportation. • Provide resource information and guidance, supportive listening, and coaching to callers and residents, using relevant, community, public, and private resources. • Ensure safe and smooth operation of the Refugio. Includes following and enforcing established policies and procedures, conducting house meetings and mediating issues between residents as needed. • Administer general office functions. • Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE
AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience • Knowledge of the Latino communities. • Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence. • Experience in crisis intervention. • Knowledge of public systems, community resources, and strategies to support self-sufficiency and end domestic violence. Skills and Abilities • Effective verbal and written communication in both Spanish and English. • Ability to build relationships with women and children of diverse backgrounds and life experiences. • Capacity to skillfully navigate crises and mediate conflict resolution using strong judgment. • Ability to work independently and follow-through effectively. • Computer skills preferred.
