SUMMARY:
The Battered Women's Justice Project is a national resource center that provides technical assistance on the civil and criminal justice system response to domestic violence. Under federal contracts, BWJP conducts trainings on related issues and provides on-site consultation to jurisdictions around the country seeking to improve victim safety and offender accountability.

PRIMARY
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervised by the Training & Technical Assistance Manager
1. Staff a special project to develop a model coordinated community response to co-occurring incidents of combat PTSD and domestic violence, including assessment, screening, treatment, and appropriate advocacy and criminal justice responses.
2. Create a consulting group of military and/or civilian advocates and attorneys who have specialized expertise with military victims to serve as a resource for other advocates and victims.
3. Monitor legal, military and public policy developments around the country that could positively or negatively impact civil/criminal justice responses to battered women and their families.
4. Organize training webinars and audioconferences for military and civilian advocates that address the unique needs of military victims and the challenges of advocating with the military system.
5. Provide technical assistance and information to callers on wide range of topics related to the civil and criminal justice response to domestic violence.
6. Participate in developing and presenting BWJP trainings around the country as needed.
7. Maintain accurate records for reporting to funders about all technical assistance activities.
8. Attend staff meetings and trainings, as required.
EXPERIENCE
AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
a. BA and 5+ yrs combined DV/SA advocacy, organizing and systems change work, or equivalent work/life experience.
b. Military experience or knowledge of military culture.
c. Knowledge of the range of legal and social issues that affect battered women, especially women of color, immigrant women, and other underserved groups.
d. Excellent communication skills with both civilian and military audiences.
e. Demonstrated writing and organizational skills.
f. Ability to work as part of a team. Creative and strategic thinker. Demonstrated ability to work well with diverse groups of people.
g. Ability and willingness to travel.
h. Comfortable with word processing, web research and database software.

INFORMATION:
Salary: DOQ in competitive non-profit services range, plus individual health insurance (75% family), dental insurance, disability insurance, vacation, sick, and holiday hours.
